We are pleased to invite you to a joint United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) – United States Institute of Peace (USIP) event on the topic of “Peaceful Youth: Moving from Ideas to Action on Youth, Peace and Security”, on 14 September 2018 at the Association for the Prevention of Torture in Geneva, Switzerland.
The UN Security Council Resolution 2250, adopted on 9 December 2015, became the first ever universal document to affirm the critical role that youth assume in the prevention and resolution of conflicts. While the Resolution called for the engagement of youth as partners and leaders at all levels of decision-making and in peacebuilding processes, the international community should now find effective ways to partner with youth to address both the causes and the effects of such phenomenon as violence, radicalization and extremism.
Against this backdrop, this event aims to explore concrete ways in which the international community can support wider and more meaningful engagement of youth in peacebuilding and decision-making processes worldwide. It will be comprised of two parts of different formats:
Section One – Public Panel Discussion (10.30 am – 12.00 pm)
Status quo, action points and the role of education and training in Youth, Peace and Security agenda.
Section Two – Creative Space (1.00 pm – 3.30 pm)
Facilitated small table discussions around the topics:
- What are some of the best practices for youth participation in peace and security efforts?
- What are some of the challenges for youth participation in peace and security efforts?
- How does your organization integrate training and education into youth, peace and security programming?
In light of the excellent work done by your organization in the realm of Youth, Peace and Security, we believe your insights and experience would be highly relevant to the interactive Creative Space. Your contribution would be highly appreciated and, without doubt, would be key to the success of the event.
In case of interest, we would kindly ask you to register at: https://www.unitar.org/event/full-catalog/peaceful-youth-creative-space before September 12, 2018.
We look forward to your participation in the event.
