SUMMARY:Celebrating World Children's Day
DESCRIPTION:LakshyaShala EduTech conducted a program on World Children’s Day\,  to commemorate select points on child’s rights\, with about 150 students from a Government school for children from underserved communities. The event was in partnership with Express Avenue and Ariel Foundation International. \nThe children were from grades  6\, 7 and 8. The awareness on Child’s rights was done using visual aid and interactive sessions. \nThe main rights covered were: \n\nRights to Education\nRights for a Safe World\nRights to Good Health\n\nThe intention was to keep the highlights of the rights simple and positive. The session covered the importance of education\, and why the children have to look at it not just as their rights\, but also to understand the purpose of education. \nThe second point on safe world meant a good environment for them to exist. Students were made to understand that each of them can become Change Agents.  The dangers of single use plastic was highlighted and to cut the use of single use plastic\, recycling plastic etc were discussed amongst the students.  The factors of climate change and its impact were also presented. Students came forward to share their thoughts on how actions to manage the waste can be done. \nRights to good health and care also meant things started with their own personal hygiene. \nThe students found the session informative and thoughtful.  As a follow up to the program\, we will be implementing actionable solutions in the school during the coming months.

SUMMARY:USIP event on Peaceful Youth
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We are pleased to invite you to a joint United Nations Institute of Training and Research (UNITAR) – United States Institute of Peace (USIP) event on the topic of “Peaceful Youth: Moving from Ideas to Action on Youth\, Peace and Security”\, on 14 September 2018 at the Association for the Prevention of Torture in Geneva\, Switzerland. \nThe UN Security Council Resolution 2250\, adopted on 9 December 2015\, became the first ever universal document to affirm the critical role that youth assume in the prevention and resolution of conflicts. While the Resolution called for the engagement of youth as partners and leaders at all levels of decision-making and in peacebuilding processes\, the international community should now find effective ways to partner with youth to address both the causes and the effects of such phenomenon as violence\, radicalization and extremism. \nAgainst this backdrop\, this event aims to explore concrete ways in which the international community can support wider and more meaningful engagement of youth in peacebuilding and decision-making processes worldwide. It will be comprised of two parts of different formats: \nSection One – Public Panel Discussion (10.30 am – 12.00 pm)\nStatus quo\, action points and the role of education and training in Youth\, Peace and Security agenda. \nSection Two – Creative Space (1.00 pm – 3.30 pm)\nFacilitated small table discussions around the topics: \n\nWhat are some of the best practices for youth participation in peace and security efforts?\nWhat are some of the challenges for youth participation in peace and security efforts?\nHow does your organization integrate training and education into youth\, peace and security programming?\n\nIn light of the excellent work done by your organization in the realm of Youth\, Peace and Security\, we believe your insights and experience would be highly relevant to the interactive Creative Space. Your contribution would be highly appreciated and\, without doubt\, would be key to the success of the event. \nIn case of interest\, we would kindly ask you to register at: https://www.unitar.org/event/full-catalog/peaceful-youth-creative-space before September 12\, 2018. \nWe look forward to your participation in the event.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]\n	\n	DOWNLOAD BROCHURE\n	\n[/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Burkinabè Rising Film
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Art of Resistance in Burkina Faso \nA new documentary from Cultures of Resistance Films\, showcases creative nonviolent resistance in Burkina Faso. A small\, landlocked country in West Africa\, Burkina Faso is home to a vibrant community of artists and engaged citizens\, who provide an example of the type of political change that can be achieved when people come together. It is an inspiration\, not only to the rest of Africa but also to the rest of the world. \nThrough music\, film\, ecology\, visual art\, and architecture\, the people featured in this film are carrying on the revolutionary spirit of Thomas Sankara. After assuming the presidency in 1983\, Sankara was killed in a 1987 coup d’état led by his friend and close advisor Blaise Compaoré\, who subsequently ruled the country as an autocrat for twenty-seven years. In October 2014\, a massive popular insurrection led to his removal. Today\, the spirit of resistance is mightier than ever in Burkina Faso. \nIn the fall of 2016\, director Iara Lee traveled throughout the country to film Burkinabè Rising. Through this journey\, she met a remarkable cast of artists\, musicians\, and activists who are using the country’s artistic traditions to propel forward a message of resistance: Joey le Soldat\, a rapper\, infuses his lyrics with references to the struggles of the impoverished youth in Ouagadougou\, the country’s capital\, as well as those of the farmers who toil in the country outside. Marto\, Burkina Faso’s most well-known graffiti artist\, turns barren city walls into colorful murals decrying injustice. Malika la Slameuse\, a women’s rights activist\, performs slam poetry that offers a feminist perspective on a male-dominated art form. Serge Aimé Coulibaly uses dance as a form of political resistance\, with movement borne from a need to speak out and take action. \nIn addition to profiling individual artists\, Burkinabè Rising documents a festival of recycled art and interviews groups of farmers who are standing up to the incroachment of corporate agriculture. Displaying a panorama of creative resistance\, the film shows how the resurgent Burkinabè pursuit of peace and justice manifests itself through cultural expression\, permeating every aspect of daily life.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
