Abubaker Sekatuka
Abubaker Sekatuka is a public health advocate and a project management professional with over six years of experience in project implementation and community engagement in the nonprofit sector. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health – Health Promotion from Uganda Martyrs University in Uganda and a Diploma in Nursing from Mulago School of Nursing and Midwifery. Over the past six years, Abubaker has advocated for maternal, neonatal and child health rights, sexual and reproductive health, specifically pregnancy care, disease detection and prevention by training community health workers and strengthening Community Health Systems. Currently the moderator of Transparency and Accountability Community of Practice (CoP) of the Community Solutions Program, a U.S Department of State funded training program for grass-roots leaders across the world implemented by the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX). He has demonstrated the cultivation and nurturing of healthy, inclusive, and thriving safe spaces.


Previously, Abubaker worked as a Community Health Supervisor with Living Goods under the USAID-funded Result Based Financing program. He advanced health education and promoted maternal and child health awareness to prevent the spread of malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhea in remote villages in Uganda. Specifically, he recruited, trained, and mentored four hundred eighty community health workers who graduated and served their communities which reduced under-five year old mortality by 27% in Uganda over a year. Abubaker has volunteered in several organizations like World Federation of Public Health Associations where he serves on the policy committee by drafting public health policies. He is a certified Human rights consultant from the U.S Institute of Diplomacy and Human rights and a Goldin Global Fellow where he contributes to the Community of Practice and exploring the Asset-Based Community Development model in practice. Through these experiences, he has developed strong program management and engagement skills. With a strong passion for reproductive health and youth development, Abubaker established Sharing Circles, an initiative that combats trauma among the youth through mentorship, creating opportunities and building their power. He also Co-founded Love to Love organization which empowers orphans with love, care, and support in Uganda.
